Who Is Favored To Win the 2025 World Series?

The Dodgers have everything they need to steamroll back to a World Series in 2025. Los Angeles was expected to be the best team in baseball coming into 2024 and ended up being exactly that, winning the title. But, it's not like they played their best baseball all year. The Dodgers still had to work through significant injuries to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Mookie Betts, Tyler Glasnow, and others. With top talent and elite depth, they still came out on top.

This year, I think the Dodgers are even better. After signing two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, re-upping slugger Teoscar Hernandez, and adding top international free agents in Roki Sasaki and Hyeseong Kim, Los Angeles started the season off to a big NL West lead. They also have an elite back-end bullpen now, with Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates joining.

This is essentially a perfect team (and has looked like it early in 2025), with the depth to withstand significant injuries anywhere. I don't expect the Dodgers to take any kind of step back, though the Padres are pressing them for the NL West lead. We'll see how long this holds up, but for now the Dodgers are the kings of MLB.

World Series Odds Dark Horse: Chicago Cubs

Floating around the top 10 in World Series odds, the Chicago Cubs +1600 are great value in the market.

After a playoff drought since 2020, the Cubs have revitalized their roster, notably acquiring Kyle Tucker, who is bordering on an MVP-caliber performance this year. The offense is further bolstered by emerging talents like Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw, contributing to the team's strong standing atop the NL Central.

If the Cubs can solidify their pitching staff, they have the potential to make a deep postseason run

World Series Odds Betting Handle & Public Trends

Bettors LOVE the Dodgers. Can you blame them? As I broke down, they're basically a perfect baseball team. But this is also a weird sport where anything can happen. The Dodgers nearly lost to a far worse Padres team last October, before squeezing by on some bullpen games and winning the World Series.

While a vast majority of the bets and the money are on Los Angeles to repeat, I think the books are probably pretty happy to take all that action. We haven't had a repeat title winner in MLB since the Yankees in 2000.

The biggest long shot to win the World Series in the last decade was the 2015 Kansas City Royals. The '23 Rangers weren't far behind either, with +3200 odds to win the championship.

The Royals were coming off a season in which they dominated all the way to the World Series (not losing a single playoff game on the AL side of the bracket) and then pushed the eventual champion Giants to seven games for the title. However, they weren’t getting much respect in preseason odds the next year as KC’s +3300 Opening Day odds to win the title placed the team 17th on the board at the time.
