NFL Teams To Live Bet When Leading
This first table examines how NFL teams fare after scoring the first touchdown of the game — that’s what the first column represents — and then the rest of the chart explores how teams fare when leading after the first quarter, after halftime, etc.
The number in parenthesis is the scoring differential after each phase.
team | After Scoring First | After 1st Quarter | After 1st Half | After 3rd Quarter |
---|---|---|---|---|
Arizona | 5-5 (3.3) | 4-1 (9.8) | 6-2 (4.25) | 6-3 (4.11) |
Atlanta | 5-5 (-2.4) | 2-2 (5.5) | 4-3 (6.14) | 6-2 (6.0) |

The Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills are two of the top teams to live bet based on last year's numbers. Detroit went a perfect 7-0 when scoring first, and 8-0 when leading after the first quarter. Similarly, the high-octane Bills finished 8-1 when scoring first, and 7-0 when leading after the first quarter.
NFL Teams To Live Bet When Losing
This second table, below, explores how NFL teams fare after falling behind at the same checkpoints. The results on that end are quite surprising, so we’re excited to show you where to find all the juicy come-from-behind betting value.
team | After Not Scoring First | After 1st Quarter | After 1st Half | After 3rd Quarter |
---|---|---|---|---|
Arizona | 3-4 (-1.71) | 2-3 (-7.4) | 1-6 (-7.86) | 2-4 (-5.17) |
Atlanta | 3-4 (-1.43) | 1-2 (-3.33) | 3-6 (-5.56) | 0-6 (-7.5) |
Baltimore | 4-2 (3.0) | 3-2 (-6.0) | 1-2 (-8.0) | 0-3 (-5.67) |
Buffalo | 5-3 (3.38) | 4-3 (-6.0) | 3-3 (-7.0) | 2-1 (-4.67) |
Carolina | 2-8 (-15.2) | 1-7 (-7.5) | 2-10 (-10.17) | 0-6 (-8.5) |
Chicago | 4-11 (-3.93) | 3-9 (-6.33) | 2-9 (-6.82) | 0-5 (-5.0) |
Cincinnati | 4-2 (5.17) | 2-2 (-5.25) | 2-5 (-8.86) | 4-3 (-4.71) |
Cleveland | 1-11 (-13.42) | 0-9 (-5.56) | 1-11 (-9.17) | 2-9 (-6.73) |
Dallas | 3-6 (-10.11) | 2-7 (-6.44) | 1-6 (-8.29) | 1-9 (-8.0) |
Denver | 4-3 (0.57) | 3-3 (-8.0) | 3-4 (-5.86) | 0-6 (-6.0) |
Detroit also headlines our teams to live bet when losing, as the finished last season 8-2 SU after not scoring first, with an average margin of nearly 12 points in those games. It will be interesting to see if that trend continues after offensive coordinator Ben Johnson departed for the division rival Bears.
Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings went 7-1 after failing to score first last year. Of course, those games all feature Sam Darnold as quarterback, who now plys his trade for the Seattle Seahawks. Minnesota will trot out rookie JJ McCarthy under center this season.
If you're searching for a team to fade, the New Orleans Saints went 0-7 SU after not scoring first last year. The Saints -16 point differential points towards the struggles and injuries the team went through. However, with quarterback Derek Carr retiring, and the position uncertain in his wake, the Saints look like the perfect team to fade when live betting in 2025.
